Good morning Beautiful Peeps,

I am the very proud mommy of “Sully” (Jax as you called him). Though he is deaf, he is highly intelligent and willing to learn. “Sully” has just completed puppy kindergarten and is going into puppy obedience at the Salisbury Kennel Club.

“Sully” is the sweetest little guy, and his personality is priceless. I knew when first met him and took him on a walk, I wanted nothing more than to adopt him into my family.

“Sully” is not your typical Jack Russell Terrier, he loves to play with other dogs (he does think he is a giant and can be quite bossy). He likes cats and long walks in the woods. He enjoys watching the fish in my fish tank, nature shows and chasing the Lacrosse balls all over the back yard. Though Jacks are born “ground/earth” dogs, “Sully” totally digs a swim in the bay and retrieves anything I throw out in the water. He will even stick his head completely under water to retrieve shells!

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I love and enjoy my little pooch. Sandy , thank you for seeing the connection and helping to make “Sully” part of my life.

I almost forgot, “Sully” loves his sister “Dori” too. She is the yorkie that visited him before I adopted him, to see if the two would get along. They always compete for the coolest toy and inevitably end up slobbery and out of breath from playing so much.

I hope that this e-mail will inspire others to consider adopting deaf dogs. Though their need for greater patience and consistent training methods may take a bit longer, you will find no greater loyalty and companionship.

Thank you again for all the help “Sully” and I received from the Wicomico County Humane Society, you folks are fabulous!!!

To all the staff at The Wicomico Humane Society:

We came to the Humane Society looking for a dog on August 19, 2008 in the early afternoon. I was pleased with the facility. We were greeted and welcomed even before my two sons and I could even get fully in the door. We looked at all the dogs in the dog room, but I will have to say I did stop and pay extra attention to Jax when I went by, he stole my heart. I still proceeded to look at the dogs available but in my heart Jax kept calling me to him, so I returned to his cage for a visit. The attendant came by and told me I was welcome to take him outside if I so choose. My sons and I took Jax outside and we had a blast. While we were walking, Jax decided he wanted to play when a frog hopped by, and seemed disappointed when the frog got away from him. As we were returning to the shelter the attendant told me about Jax and the fact that he was deaf, (I already knew from reading his kennel paper) his deafness did not matter to me at all, as I have been deaf as a child and young adult who went throgh several surgeries to restore my hearing, this just made me want him more. I did not want to leave the shelter after I filled out the adoption papers, I felt I was leaving my baby behind, but as we were about to leave another assistant had Jax and was giving him some love. I was able to get some kisses from Jax before I left. I would just like you to know we were very imoressed with the shelter and have fallen in love with Jax and we would very much love to bring him home.

Sincerly,

Jennifer Henry

A note of thanks and gratitude for the wonderful job you do. We adopted Thatcher in 1994 when you were located behind Cato Oil.

Thatcher brought us so much love and joy. He truly was the greatest dog, freind, and family member.

We wanted you to have this picture of him to place on the website as a tribute to what you do.

Thatcher passed away on 7/9 and he will be loved and missed so much.

With deepest gratitude,

Sallie Loughlin

I thought that I would give you an update on our little babies (even though they are 79 and 82 lbs.). Mike and I adopted Gracie and Alexander (was Glover) March 3, 2007. They are so smart and loving puppies! We can't believe all the things they pick up on and learn, both from us teaching them and by observing us. We are so thankful to everyone there for helping us in adopting our wonderful puppies!

Thanks again,

We love having Izzy (aka Momma dog) at our house. She is extremely loving, she is happiest when she is following me around! She loves to ride in the car (after our first trip, I was worried) but now, she will dash to the door whenever she hears the word "ride"!  If she's not chasing squirrels, rabbits, or any other small creature, she's happy to lounge in the yard or walk for HOURS!

Thanks again!

Chandler Sickmund

PS- she likes to have her picture taken too!

Pebbles

Last Wednesday 3/15 I brought the newest love of my lifehome from your shelter.  Her name to you was "Dandee", her newname is "Pebbles", one of the sweetest, lovable and most adorable cats I have ever met. On Tuesday evening when I stopped in there "just to look" I walked into Kitty City and instantly was drawn to her. It has been hard for me to really take the time to honestly look for another cat, 2 years ago this coming May I had to put my Midnight down after 18 years of the most unconditional love there was and it has been extremely hard to replace her, but when I walked in and met "Dandee"I knew I didn't have to replace my Midnight, I could just add to the love in my heart and take Dandee home with me. Well once again I have found the spark in my heart that I have been missing, she is the answer to all that has been missing in my life.

She is a very happily spoiled cat in just 5 days. She isadjusting well and we have bonded instantly. Here are a few pictures just tolet you know who rules the roost in my house. Thank you all for creating such awonderful atmosphere for the animals and doing your best to find them homes.

  Sincerely,

Mookie (formerly known as Cassidy)

It's been quite a while since we adopted Mookie, and I've been meaning to send a picture and a thank you to you all at HSWC.

He's the best dog, so loving, so funny, so energetic! I've attached a picture to show you how he spent his summer....it took us some time to get him all the way in the pool, but now he goes in by himself, just to cool off.

I'll drop off a hard-copy of this picture when I get back to the shelter.

Thank you again for this wonderful member of our family.

To the staff at The Wicomico Humane Society:

After the loss of my beloved companion, I lost our dog as well. I came to you in search of another dog. I pondered the cages watching each dog greet me at their door with a bark, a wag, and a smile. There was one dog however, that sat quietly in the corner of his cage very frightened. i ask for a leash so I could take him for a walk. the minute we were outside he hid under a bush. He was as frightened about the future as I was, and we were all alone! That when I realized he could help me as much as I could help him.

It has ben 3 months of growing together. There were scary times. We made it through neutering, bee stings and parking lots heading to dog classes. He loves to dance for Mom when its meal time, likes drinking out of our bird bath and snuggles at night when we are atching t.v.. We have safety in our lives now. The safety that says we have faith we can get through any adversity and wag our tails in times of praise and blessings.

Thanks to the staff of the Wicomico Humane Society for helping me learn to grow through the love that this dog gives me.

I adopted my Cody from you about a year ago he is so wonderful. He is a giant black lab, you guys would know him as Striker, but he is much to gentle for such a name. He is fitting in well with everyone except the cat but i wouldn't expect that poor little ten pound cat to like that 140 pound dog charging at him all the time.

Thanks for such a great experience!!
