Meet the beautiful blue and white Dahlia. This girl has not had the easiest start coming to the shelter. She was abandoned to say the least, by her previous owner and understandably, had a hard time opening up to staff at first. That took about a week or so and now we all see her true silly personality.
She can be a tad bit shy at first so please take it slow and advocate for her! With new people, let her come to you and don’t invade her personal space. Once Dahlia gets to know you, she loves cuddles and leaning her whole body against you. She knows sit and shake, and we are working on down. This girl will do anything for a pupperoni or cheese- her favorite. She may even fancy powdered donuts but sh, that’s a secret.
She’s a medium to lower energy pup who walks beautifully on leash. She walks right by you or behind you and tires out easily. Teaching her “heel” would be a piece of cake. She would love nothing more than a quiet home that would give her so many cuddles and attention. Crate training would give her a space to call her own and make her feel safe if new people come over.
Dahlia is blossoming every single day at the shelter and she loves cats, a little too much- she doesn’t understand why they don’t want to play and is very interested in dogs. We would not recommend her into a home with small kids at this time because she can be shy with people grabbing at her and has displayed some slight resource guarding with food. Volunteers and staff can give you tips on how to help this in a home.
