Look at that happy face! Mercedes is an affectionate girl who came to us when her previous owners sadly fell on hard times. Mercedes has a heart of gold and nothing but love to give everyone she meets! She was very scared when she first got here, but in no time she has come out of her shell and shown off just how darling she is. All she wants is to be loved on! Mercedes is easy to handle, so loving, and easy-going.
Mercedes is dog selective (she’s sadly been attacked in her past and is fearful because of that), but she has nice manners with smaller dogs that have a relaxed personality. She has nicely walked up the street next to smaller dogs with no problems.
She was in a foster home for a good bit with toddlers to teens and did very well with the children. She was also taken to large sporting events by her foster family and did a great job around all of the excitement and children around her.
Because of her separation anxiety, she would do best in a home with someone that is home often until they can give her some training and help her work through it. We’d be more than happy to provide tips on help with that, but Mercedes just needs dedication and consistency to finally live an anxiety-free life.
She’s really just the sweetest and would make the perfect companion for someone who wants her to be their everything! Mercedes did test heartworm positive, but all of her treatments will be covered and taken care of by the Humane Society. The sooner she can get adopted, the sooner her treatments can begin! (She will need the doggy version of bed rest throughout.) Mercedes currently weighs about 63 pounds.

“Sometimes families come into the HSWC looking for a certain dog, maybe a certain look, or size, energy level. Sometimes they just want to meet some dogs and see if there is a connection. If we could order a family for sweet Mercedes we would order a work from home situation or maybe a retired couple.
Mercedes loves being with people and has been with her people a lot. She can be ok by herself but loves her people. Also good with all ages of kids. She needs slow introductions with men. She would like to be the only dog. She has had some bad experiences in her past with other dogs. We want a stress free life for her. Both of her owners have slipped away from her, I’m sure she wonders where they are… she can get very attached to anyone who shows her love. Please consider meeting Mercedes. She is such a special love bug.”
