About Us

The Humane Society of Wicomico County has worked to match homeless animals with their forever families for over 50 years.

We are an open-admission shelter which means any lost, found, stray, injured, neglected, abandoned, or surrendered animal from our county in need of refuge will not be turned away.

We work alongside Salisbury City Animal Control and Wicomico County Animal Control, who also has a contract with the Town of Delmar, to provide temporary shelter and care to stray animals in our area.

As a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, we rely on public support to operate including donations, bequests, and fundraising events.

In addition to adoption services, we offer community programs in effort to control the population of unwanted pets, resources to keep pets in their homes, and euthanasia services to end the suffering of pets at the end of their lives.

We strive to find good homes for all healthy, adoptable animals. The goal every day is to have no-kill statistics, but we cannot allow an animal to suffer or place a dangerous animal into a home.

If you’re thinking about adding a pet to your family, we’d love for you to stop by our shelter so our staff can help you choose the right animal for you and your loved ones.

Our Mission Statement

The Humane Society of Wicomico County is dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk animals, and matching pets with their forever families while providing premier temporary care and shelter for the animals in our community.
