This beautiful, beautiful boy… He came to me from the Humane Society of Wicomico County with the name Spider, but after only a few minutes, I realized it was clearly not going to stick. He has such a deep-seated distrust of people that is expressed through such an amazing display of anger that the name Furious George was the only option. Let me introduce you to Fury…
He’s mad. And he hates me, you, your mother, the guy at the end of the bar, and the horse he rode in on. What does he love? Food. So much so that he learned how to tell time just so he could yell at me that whatever meal I am preparing is late. He’s like a neutered male Karen.
Although he generally enjoys being in the same room as people, he would rather be admired from afar. On occasion, he will allow humble you to pet him, and will purr… But only for a minute. Fury then quickly remembers he left the oven on in the other room and vacates. The only way I have been able to determine what occasion warrants such intimacy is by approaching him. If he stays, the heavens open and you may relish in the glory of the chosen. If he leaves, the answer is no… And most of the time he’ll hiss at you to drive home his displeasure with your attempt at intrusion of his whackadoodle bubble.
All that being said, Fury loves the company of other cats and kittens, and he tolerates my medium-sized dogs. I honestly don’t know if being an only cat would drive him to further hermitage, or force him to appreciate his human(s). I can say with some certainty that mixing him with children would be a recipe for disaster.
Fury is a semi-delightful little conundrum that will require the patience of a saint and the determination of a successful door-to-door salesperson. Finding a fur-ever home for him will be the pinnacle of success for both Cedarcrest Homestead Foster Tails & Kitten Rescue and me. If you are up for the challenge, you can fill out an application with the Humane Society of Wicomico County… They know him as “Spider”
